Great asset , probably the best Third Person Controller in the store right now , nothing new under the sun . Unfortunately perfection is a dream and despite lots of new stuffs and a refined core it is still misses some essentials things even with the version 2.0 . I will review what are for me the good and not so good points of this update ( I cant use the word bad cause this asset is fantastic . ) in the hope it could help someone .

Like i said first the invectors team has added lots of new great stuffs and improvements with this major update . The code has been rewritten and the animators components were drastically enhanced which means lot of fps gain and much more stability even at low frame rate . The core of the asset has also been rewritten and is now clearly splitted between basic locomotion and melee combat templates so that we can easily start with a robust basic controller and add only needed things . We can also notice an new easy to use inventory system and new unarmed hand/foot attack/defense abilities . But cool things really beggins with the totally new demo-scene where the developers shows us there magic skills with fantastic tricks like basic quests , openable chests , lockable doors , end-level bosses ... and much more !!!!
It is like having three or four top-quality asset in one but the problem is maybe here .

Adding more and more stuffs instead of focusing only on the basic locomotion/attack sytem leads to some creepy things : The jump system is still not based on the grounded foot and sometimes have weird issues ( foots are generally not correctly aligned with the ground , random height , low reactivity and lot of rigidity ) , AI s are very stupid ( easy to deafeat and not realistics fights ) , still no possibility to climb horizontaly or to hang on ledges , the inventory is very limited , openable chests have some bug , documentation is nearly inexistant for the 2.0 realease ( but the support is really great ) ... And where are the draggable boxes and the magic Fire Axe ? ;(

So in conclusion this asset is a must have but needs lots of improvement , and IN MY OPINION it is an half-finished released but buying it is a very good Christmas idea for sure .

This is a really excellent package that saves much time on most templates of games. It is one of my favorite top ten asset! I believe even the basic package alone (not include AI and attacking scripts) it is very helpful to speed up the development process of your game. There is many excellent points about this asset, to review below.

You can outfit any humanoid model with third person controller immediately and automatically by choosing the 3rd Person Template window in the editor (if not visible at top of your editor, just find the window tab and look for "3rd Person Controller" there). All you have to do is choose "Create a new character" and drag any humanoid model in there. That is it! It is simple, flexible, and works well. I think the simplicity of start and speed of initiation is valuable contribution to any serious developer kit.

The camera controller is another point that cannot be dismissed. Even if one was not to barely use the character controller script, the camera script alone (labeled TPCamera) has many valuable functions. The algorithm for object follow is well done, and allows for natural and smooth following (you can configure short delay of follow for smooth effect!) with simple setting configuration in editor mode. The third person controller camera is flexible with use and can handle any angle, including traditional third person (behind character) and top down isometric. Camera rotation and zoom also has smoothness in transition algorithm, and feels very professional and AAA quality.

The example demo scenes are easy to understand also, and show the developer basic understanding of the capability of the asset. As for me, I learn how in Unity animation and script work in unison and how to apply to player input, using this asset. The code is clean and easy to understand, take a look and you may learn much!

Finally, the great bonus is a basic AI script and weapons script included with the asset. This is truly going above the standard. Just with this asset alone, and some free models, a developer can make a working basic 3D action RPG in just a month. I am using this asset to learn basic AI function, and the clarity of code and organization makes easy to learn. This asset I consider one of the "essential" or "required" assets for developers of third person, isometric, or top down style. It comes with animations, good scripts, good learning examples, good functionality, good AI. Everything you need in one package.
